1 Batch of my favorite Dough (seen below) OR 1 package pie dough from the grocery store

1 egg beaten
Turbinado sugar for garnish
Favorite Pie dough
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup Crisco shortening
7-8 tablespoons ice cold water
Preheat oven to 375 Degrees F.

Cut shortening, flour and salt together with a fork or pastry knife until pea sized and crumbly. Add 7-8 tablespoons of ice cold water to the center of the mix. Slowly mix with a fork until dough is mostly incorporated. Dump dough onto a floured counter top and knead 2-3 times to smooth slightly. Do not over knead. Rub your rolling pin with flour and roll dough to about 1/4 inch in thickness.
1.Take a flower shaped cookie cutter at least 5 inches in diameter and start cutting flower shapes out of your dough.
2.Take a small knife and make slices to the base of the petals.
3.Place about a tablespoon or two of apple filling in the center of the flower.
4.Brush dough with beaten egg and start folding petals up around the filling. The egg wash will act as a glue to help hold the blossom together.
5.Now that blossom is folded, brush the outside of the blossom with egg wash and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
Place blossoms on a cookie sheet lined with tin foil and sprayed with pam cooking spray.
Bake at 375 degrees F for about 20 minutes or until golden brown crust appears.
Where can I find a 5" flower shaped cookie cutter?
ReplyDeleteAfter much searching I found an Etsy seller CookieCrumbleKid who makes cutters 3”-8” and you choose from 3-10 petals!
